Ananse means spider in the twi dialect spoken in Ghana. Ananse is also the symbol for storytelling and garment weaving of the Akan people who are based in west African region spanning across the Ivory Coast and Ghana. Ananse is one of the ways our African ancestors kept their identities alive through the middle passage. They passed on their knowledge and philosophical lessons on life through ananse folklore stories to their offspring. Many of the stories survived, and the tradition of telling stories in the name of Ananse is still intact in Africa and in many parts of the Caribbean islands till this day.
Our Ananse premium grade snapback is made with 100% cotton and features the colors RED - GOLD - GREEN which together symbolizes Pan-African independence. These colors were adopted from the Ethiopian flag in solidarity due to their independent sovereignty of never having been conquered by a western power during colonialism.
